Staying On the Job Resource Manual

A manager's guide to understanding and accommodating employees with chronic and changing disabilities.

The Staying On the Job (SOJ) Resource Manual examines workplace issues and provides solutions to the challenges managers face as they hire and retain employees with chronic and changing disabilities.

This 100+ page resource is a compilation of advice and experience gathered from more than 100 employers and over 50 employees.

The SOJ Resource Manual addresses the following questions:

  • How can I, as an employer, retain the services of employees who have chronic and changing disabilities?
  • How do I, as a manager, accommodate the limitations of fatigue and pain?
  • How can I effectively communicate, both verbally and non-verbally, with the employee?
  • How do I determine the impact of the disability on job requirements?

  • Retain valued employees
  • educe employee turnover and recruitment costs
  • Control the rising cost of disability benefits
  • Comply with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
