"Job Solutions for Employers of Individuals with Chronic and Changing Disabilities: A Practical Seminar for Supervisors and Managers"

An employee returns to work from chemotherapy and has been experiencing fatigue and depression. Her performance has decreased and co-workers are assuming some of her workload . . .

Due to changes in his medication, another employee is unable to maintain adequate concentration or stay on task at his job . . .

As a manager, how do you handle the accommodations needed by employees who have chronic and changing disabilities such as these? This 3-1/2 hour seminar conducted by the Staying on the Job program will provide practical answers to this question.

How common are chronic disabilities?

A recent Gallup Poll revealed that one in seven Americans faces major activity limitations due to chronic illness: cancer, diabetes, depression, back injuries, arthritis, heart disease, HIV/AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome, lupus, multiple sclerosis, visual or hearing disabilities, respiratory disease, stroke . . . the list of chronic disabilities goes on and on.

What topics will the seminar address?

  • Brief overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • What are symptoms of chronic, changing, and hidden disabilities?
  • How should coworkers and supervisors communicate with an employee with a disability?
  • What are the steps to an effective and realistic accommodation process?
  • What flexible work options or accommodations have worked?

Why attend?

  • You will increase your knowledge on how to avoid problems in the accommodation process by working with practical, real-life employment scenarios.
  • You will learn how to deal with the unique challenges of hidden disabilities.
  • You will learn how to avoid common mistakes made by most employers in supervising employees with chronic and changing disabilities.
