The service options we currently provide include:

Office Technology/Medical Terminology Training - $1600

This 13-week computer training program meets 20 hours a week. Topics covered include: Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, introduction to the Internet and e-mail, giving students a solid background in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management. Included in the course is an overview of customer service, business grammar, math, and communications. Work-related topics are presented by local employers and members of our Business Advisory Council. Also included in this class is a section on Medical Terminology in which students are given a variety of audio/visual aids which help in the memorization process of the medical terms. (26 CEUs)

Tier I Training Course:

Introduction to the Workplace - $525

This course covers the very basics that all careers tracks require. Students will gain insight in today’s business world. Students will also learn computer basics along with keyboarding and data entry skills. Breakdown by hours: Employment Prep 12 hours, Intro to PC 12 hours, Windows 2 hours, Typing Quick and Easy 12 hours, Intro to MS Word/Access 16 hours, and Internet Basics 4 hours = 48 hours.

All consumers are required to complete this tier in order to move into Tier II or Tier III courses.

Tier II Training Course:

Office Careers Training - $900

This course covers MS Office from a basic to an intermediate level. It will prepare students for entry-level careers in an office support environment such as: Clerical Support, Call Center, and Receptionist. Breakdown by hours: MS Word 28 hours, MS Access 18 hours, MS Excel 18 hours, MS PowerPoint 4 hours, MS Outlook 4 hours, Customer Service/Effective Communication 8 hours, Job Seeking Skills 12 hours, and Clerical Skills 4 hours = 96 hours.

Tier III Training Courses:

Once a consumer successfully completes Tier II Training, they may move into Tier III Training courses, with the exception of the two courses noted above. Consumers may NOT test out of Tier II before moving into the Tier III training courses. Students must pass specific course entrance criteria prior to being accepted into a Tier III training. The screening fee is $175 per person for Tier III trainings.

Keep in mind that each tier is designed, not only to help the consumer gain skills necessary to successfully compete in the work place, but as an on-going step-by-step assessment tool to ensure they are really ready and able to succeed in more advanced training courses in their career choice area, thus more appropriately spending training dollars.

Accounting Support Training - $650

This course will prepare students for entry-level careers in: Accounts Receivable/Payable, Billing, and

Payroll. Breakdown by hours: Accounting Support Basics 12 hours, Advanced MS Excel 8 hours, Intro to QuickBooks 20 hours, and Business Math 8 hours = 48 hours.

Healthcare Support Training - $850

This course will prepare students for entry-level careers in: Medical Reception, Patient Registration, Clinic Office Assistant, Call Center, and Patient Scheduling. Breakdown by hours: Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy 52 hours, Intro to Billing and Coding 8 hours, and Patient Ethics and Confidentiality 4 hours = 64 hours.

One-to-One Computer Training is available for consumers who need specific training in one computer software or skills area or who learn better independently. One-to-One Computer Training is done both on and off site. Training areas include: Keyboarding, Customer Service, Internet, Business Writing, and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Module Training

These are semi monthly trainings given in Word and Excel that deal with the basic, intermediate, and advanced aspects of each program on a rotating schedule. Each module is taught in two, three hour blocks=6 Hours

Post-Training Placement -- This is a service for individuals who have completed Office Technology Training. Employment staff provide structure and support, job referrals, and assistance with the application process aimed at securing a position in the individual’s field.

Special features of MRC Duluth training:

  • Class size is small, so students receive one-on-one time with the instructor. All training courses include work readiness training sessions conducted by members of our Business Advisory Council.

  • MRC Duluth Computer Training is registered with the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office, accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement and the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), and certified as a training provider under the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

  • MRC Duluth’s Business Advisory Council consists of individuals from business and industry who know the specific skills required for employment in the Twin Ports area. Through the advice and participation of BAC members, the curriculum is updated to meet local needs and MRC Duluth is kept abreast of local employers’ needs. The BAC also assists in the selection, retention, and placement of MRC Duluth students.
